Why Nonprofit Boards?

Why Nonprofit Boards?

I’ve spent my career empowering entire sectors, not individual organizations.

As Chief Strategy Officer at Royall & Company (now EAB), I worked with 400+ colleges and universities. I’d fall in love with each institution’s mission—even schools that weren’t right for me personally. After a few years, I realized: I’d never want to work for just one college. I wanted them ALL to succeed.

That’s why creating sector-wide tools mattered so much. Our enrollment marketing systems worked whether a college was large or small, public or private, East Coast or West Coast. We measured our impact: demonstrably increased college access, especially for first-generation and underserved students.

I feel exactly the same way about nonprofit boards.

Every nonprofit I work with—arts, environment, education, health, housing—I immediately see their value. And I face the same realization: I don’t want to work for just one organization. I want ALL of them to succeed.

That’s why I created Networks to New Donors.

I’m building tools and frameworks that empower nonprofit boards across the entire sector—regardless of mission, budget size, or service area. The network mapping methodology works for food banks and theatre companies. The Resource Guides work for environmental organizations and youth programs. The introduction frameworks work for introverts and extroverts, lawyers and teachers.

The goal isn’t to make every board the same.

The goal is to give every board the systems to succeed on THEIR terms, with THEIR networks, advancing THEIR mission.

Just like at Royall, where we created systems that worked for diverse institutions, I’m creating systems that work for diverse nonprofits.

That’s sector-wide empowerment. That’s removing barriers at scale.

That’s why I do this work.
